Good day, Chef Pascal!
My name is Teresa Paterno and I am a Commis 2 in Mandarin Oriental Manila. I just discovered this forum and I was hoping to get more information on working in Seoul as a Chef, Line Cook, etc.
I actually applied for the Room Service Commis position in Hyatt Regency in Incheon. I noticed that you are a current pastry chef there. I have already submitted my resume and application to the Hyatt Human Resources in Incheon but there is no reply yet of rejection or acceptance.
I can speak Korean and I am going to take my TOPIK test within the year.
Please send me a message or an email should you read this reply of mine. ^^
Thank you and Have a great day!
Looking forward to communicating with you, Chef Pascal! |

hello Teresa,
Thank you for your interrest in Hyatt Regency Incheon and LTB Korea. The best way to apply for jobs with hyatt is to upload your CV on the recruitment website: https://hyatt.taleo.net/careersection/10780/jobsearch.ftl?lang=en
there is also a page on facebook and you can see available positions. we get a lot of applications from local candidates for commis positions. I believe it would be difficult for you to get a job in a hotel in korea as the positions open for foreign nationals are usually for at least sous chef level, and occasionally chef de partie. but don't give up! perseverance is the key to success! If you don't have any reply from korea, I encourage you to apply and join Hyatt in your country or anywhere else if a position is available! it is a great place to work and gain experience, once you gain some experience, there may be transfer opportunities available.
I hope you will find this helpful and i wish you good luck in your job search.
Best regards.
Pascal.

Thank you for replying to my message :) I have already sent my resume and uploaded it on the Hyatt recruitment website. I am still hoping and waiting for some response (may it be good or bad news from Hyatt itself. I think the deadline for the application is May 4. So, they may start deliberating candidates after that deadline. I have already worked with Hyatt Hotel and Casino in Manila but under the Banquet Kitchen. I know how difficult it is for foreigners to get a regular position or job there in Korea as they usually hire managerial or supervisory positions only. I am not giving up, though. I am studying my Korean as much as I can in preparation for the TOPIK test at the end of the year. Maybe, it would be a plus if I really wanted to work in Korea.
I am planning to go to Korea again within this year for a vacation. I've been there last year for a visit. Maybe, I can visit and meet you and some members of LTBK in Korea. I could get some helpful advice, maybe...and some assistance in looking for job opportunities there. I don't mind working the lowest position and working long hours. I have to start at least somewhere, right? :) Even restaurants would be fine to work in. Anywhere is fine. As long as I get to learn :)
Do you know any restaurants that outsource labor? Minimum wage salary is fine. ^^
